Eram emerges as a new hub for Iran’s off-season tomato exports
BUSHEHR – Iran’s Eram district in Dashtestan County in the southern province of Bushehr is emerging as a major hub for off-season tomato production, with annual output exceeding 50,000 tons and significant potential to expand agricultural exports to regional markets.
According to Mehr News Agency, off-season tomatoes are cultivated on approximately 600 hectares of farmland in the district. Harvesting begins in the second half of November and continues through the end of winter.
Eram’s favorable climate enables farmers to produce tomatoes during months when supplies decline in many other parts of Iran, giving the region a competitive advantage in domestic and regional markets.
Local officials say the district’s substantial production capacity, coupled with investment in packaging, processing and transportation infrastructure and greater compliance with international quality standards, could significantly strengthen the presence of Eram-grown tomatoes in export markets.
The district is also moving toward more modern and export-oriented agricultural practices. Expanding greenhouse cultivation, improving water-resource management and enhancing product quality are among the key measures expected to increase the value added of the region’s agricultural production.
Experts stress that developing an integrated value chain—from cultivation and harvesting to packaging, processing and international marketing—will be crucial to transforming Eram’s annual 50,000-ton tomato production capacity into a sustainable export opportunity for Bushehr Province and Iran’s agricultural sector.
